That being said, I do think that words like these will only serve to enrich a more fully functional Chinese English that might emerge in the coming decades. Much like the usage of indigenous English words and phrases used in Englishes in India and Singapore, I think Chinese-English speakers will primarily use things like “geilivable” and “Oh my Lady Gaga” with each other, but not when communicating with an English speaker from outside of China.

Ultimately, for these Chinese English creations to become more prevalent in an overarching global English, Chinese popular culture would be have to be more desirable to the majority of the world that lives outside the Sinosphere.
